Describe your approach.

Q&A with Melody

I work to create a non-judgmental and open environment for my client by asking open-ended questions and getting to know him or her on a personal level. This occurs at a pace the client is comfortable with. I provide resources and encouragement, and it is up to the client to engage in trial and error in order to see what works best for them. The therapeutic models I integrate include Psychodynamic Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

What makes you unique?

I believe what sets me apart from others is that I actively engage in sessions to provide encouragement and resources as needed. Clients have shared that while working with me, they begin to hear my words of affirmation and support in their minds during times of distress that helps them self-soothe in the moment.  FAQs

  • I work to create a non-judgmental and open environment for my client by asking open-ended questions and getting to know him or her on a personal level. This occurs at a pace the client is comfortable with. I provide resources and encouragement, and it is up to the client to engage in trial and error in order to see what works best for them.

  • I specialize in helping individuals to develop coping mechanisms for depression, anxiety, boundary-setting, relationship issues, people-pleasing behaviors, low self-worth, and emotional regulation.

  • I usually encourage clients to take a few days after a consultation to consider if we are a good fit. I suggest listening to your gut feeling to note if there is a connection between us.

  • During a consultation, I ask you to consider what you feel comfortable sharing with me regarding what has been bothering you and what brought you to therapy. I then share more about my therapeutic approach and my experience with your current struggles. From there, we process availability.

  • During our first session, I encourage you to share what you think I should know about you while working with you. I also ask you to expand on what we discussed during our consultation. If you don't know where to start, I can lead the discussion with questions!

  • I offer virtual sessions.

  • Yes, I provide homework. Homework can include grounding techniques to practice or assignments to help restructure unhelpful thinking patterns.

  • I provide more of an open-ended structure for therapy. I take notes and keep track of your therapeutic goals on my end, and document your progress as it arises.

  • Your relationship with me will be different than your relationship with your friends or loved ones. There are different expectations within the therapeutic alliance. I do not typically share my personal emotions and opinions. The session will be focused on your goals and concerns from your personal life, while personal relationships are more reciprocal.

  • We can discuss anything that is important to you. If a topic is causing you distress or anxiety, it is relevant for therapy.

  • It can be difficult to ask for help and take that first step toward making a change. I am here to support and motivate you when you are ready to take that step. Together we can work through your personal challenges while moving toward a balanced life where you can make changes and work on your personal goals. If you don't know where to start, I can ask questions and we can see where the discussion takes us!

  • Therapy sessions are 45 minutes, and we typically meet once per week. We can shift to bi-weekly or monthly after progress has been made.

  • Throughout our time working together, we assess your goals for therapy. I create goals for you as well, but it is up to you if we explore these goals. We can identify change through various indicators such as your past and current thinking processes and behaviors, how your relationships have improved, etc.

  • I practice active listening during our sessions. I am also active during sessions by asking questions, providing alternative solutions and perspectives, and coping mechanisms for you to practice.

  • There is no right or wrong answer to this question. It all depends on your therapeutic goals and if you feel you have met them. We can discuss your progress as needed.

  • This is no problem at all. If this is the case for you, we can talk about it during our session. I can always provide other referrals that may be a better fit for you.

  • Absolutely! I am always here and will do my best to accommodate your needs as they arise.

  • You can email, text, or call me in order to reschedule a session. The fastest way to reach me is through my email.

  • I ask for 24 hours notice before canceling a session. I do the best I can to reschedule during the same week.

  • Yes.
